The Scalzo Family Story

The Scalzo family has endured more tragedy over the past year than any family should know. The first of which was Robert, Sr.'s diagnosis with a terminal illness and most recently, the total fire loss of their home. The stress, bills and difficulties are insurmountable.

It all began over a year ago with Robert, Sr. having a major stroke.  The cause of which was discovered to be a rare blood disease called Moya Moya. Occasionally, by pass surgery to the brain can delay the disease.  However, in Robert's case, the surgery is not an option as his artieries are damaged beyond repair.   The long and short of it, Robert is very ill and has not been able to work and now, with the recent loss of their home, is in desperate need.

Even though this was a difficult road to travel, Lisa, strongly took on the challenge, tending to her husband's medical needs and trying to balance the children's lives.  She never had a depressed attitude, never gave up, and continued being a part of DARE basketball, the scouts and volunteering at St.John's Church.  She went back to work full time, and through people's generosity, was able to have some Christmas present's for the children.  She also began planning a family April vacation to Disney World.. Now, all these hopes and dreams have been literally destroyed by smoke and fire.

The electrical fire began on a Tuesday morning just before 9:00am on February 12,2008 in the first floor bedroom. The miracle is the timing of the fire, as the first floor bedroom and second floor bedroom's received the most damage.  An evening fire could have had a worse outcome.  That being said, the family lost all 4 pets and all belongings in the fire.  The insurance was cancelled on the property this past fall, for lack of roof repairs. Repairs were to begin this spring.  Now the family is in need of all our community and state to ban together and do whatever we can to rebuild this property.

Their property has been in Robert's family generations and was home to his father, previous to his death last year.  Lisa and Robert and the children are securing temporary housing.  Lisa's mother Lil is attempting to enter senior housing. The temporary housing only has 4 rooms and 2 bedrooms, so limited furnishings are needed for the immediate.
